KAL PENN

Harold and Kumar go to White Castle" is slowly releasing globally in theaters, and comes out on DVD in North America on January 4, 2005. The film, from Senator International and New Line Cinema, stars Kal as "Kumar" and John Cho as "Harold". It was written by Jon Hurwitz & Hayden Schlossberg ("The Wingman") and directed by Danny Leiner ("Dude, Where's my Car?") Here's the logline -- Two twenty-something stoner roommates -- one a Korean American investment banker; the other an Indian American medical school candidate -- go through a life changing journey, as they spend a night roaming the state of New Jersey in search of White Castle hamburgers. Check out reviews on www.rottentomatoes.com.

Kal recently wrapped shooting the comedy "Man About Town" with Ben Affleck and Gina Gershon, directed by Mike Binder. He is currently in production on the independent feature, "Vegas Baby", before going on to the new season of "Six Feet Under" and Mira Nair's adaptation of Jhumpa Lahiri's "The Namesake". In 2004, Kal shot the romantic comedy, "A Lot Like Love" with Amanda Peet and Ashton Kutcher (releasing April 2005), the special-effects-packed film, "Son of the Mask" with Jamie Kennedy, and the dark drama, "Dancing in Twilight" with Sheetal Sheth. He can also be seen in the independent film "Sueno" with John Leguizamo.

As far as dramas go, Kal can be seen in "American Made", written/directed by Sharat Raju and produced by Marcus Cano. "American Made" is a story about an American Sikh family stranded in the desert, forced to confront issuses of faith, sacrafice, conformity versus identity, assimilation versus tradition - in an uncertain world. "American Made" is the recipient of the 2003 Angelus Award for exemplary filmmaking. The film also stars Bernard White, Sakina Jaffrey, and Te'Amir Yohannes Sweeney.

Known for his role as "Taj" in the Artisan Entertainment film "National Lampoon's Van Wilder", Kal also recently appeared in Warner Bros'. films "Malibu's Most Wanted" & "Love Don't Cost a Thing", and the independent film "Where's the Party, Yaar?"

Kal was born in New Jersey and trained in theater extensively in the New York City area while growing up. His most memorable experiences include working with the George Street Playhouse, Atlantic Theater Company, New Jersey Governor's School of the Arts, and Rutgers University's Summer Arts Institute.

When he graduated from the Freehold Regional High School District’s Performing Arts High School, Kal was accepted into the prestigious School of Theater, Film, and Television at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he enrolled the following fall. Frustrated with the theater program at UCLA, Kal stayed in school but focused on building his work in film & television outside the classroom.

After his supporting role in the Emmy Award winning HBO Films Comedy "Express: Aisle to Glory" in 1999, Kal went on to work episodes of "Spin City", "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer", "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch", and "The Steve Harvey Show". In 1999-2000, he was a Series Regular cast member on the ABC/Touchstone television pilot "Brookfield" produced by the Shephard-Robin Company. On the 2001-2002 TV season front, Kal booked Guest Starring roles on "NYPD Blue", "ER", "The Agency", "Angel", and "That’s Life".

In the feature film world, Kal's credits also include Eros Entertainment's "American Desi", Tom Huang's "Freshmen", and Nisha Ganatra's "Cosmopolitan".

Kal is represented by The Gersh Agency on both coasts in the US. Dan Spilo at Evolution Entertainment handles managerially.
